The 500 songs is an ESTIMATE. You iPod is full. do you have pictures taking up space? well ipods are not always what they say i have an 80 gb one and it says it takes up to 22000 but it only fits 19000 and memory lessens because there are a lot of hidden programs your songs might be too long like 5 or 6 mins long well its not the amount of songs that it hold its the MB(MegaBytes) or GB(GigaBytes) so some songs need more space and the ipod itself requires a certain amount of MB to work
also if you have any MP3%26#39;s they take up more memory than regular files u probably have pictures or games takin gup the space. try cleaning out ur songs. like ones u dont like anymore or dont listen to often. put them on a cd, then delete them off ur itunes list. if u want them later, just put the cd in and get em back! it all depends on the length and size of your song (KBS)
they say it can hold upto 500 as an estimate depending on the average lengths and sizes of songs usually. which is abot 4.(something)mins
since yours cant hold more maybe they are longer or then theres much more musiccy bits in the same amount of time 500 is an estimate of the songs you may store, however if your songs uses more space or if you have other kind of information in your i pod, then you may have used all the space you have. Becuase it can%26#39;t guarantee that it can fit 500 songs to a tee. The number is simply an "average" is based on several factors that impact your file size. Each file size is determined by 1) Format used to encode (.m4p or .mp3) 2) Bit-Rate used (the larger the bit rate, the better quality but bigger the file size) 3) The length of the song.
