I need a new hardrive and have an ipod (see below)?

Dell is sending me a new one to replace my old one. I am an avid music listener and have over 1500 songs on my old one. THey are all on my ipod so my problem is...I dont want to spend the money to buy tons of cd%26#39;s to back up all my music. If I plug my ipod into my new hardrive, will my songs automatically transfer onto my new hardrive? If not, what is my best bet? I have almost 5 GB of songs and i dont know how to go about this. Please someone help
